Fu Hao -- a very unusual heroine from Ancient Chinese history
One of my daughters is learning about the Shang Dynasty and brought to my attention a woman in her book called Fu Hao.
Fu Hao (pronounced FOO HOW) or Lady Hao was a mother, wife, military leader, politician and shaman. She led 13,000 men to war, a remarkable occurance in ancient China, and she ruled her own town. Unlike most other Sang leaders, she succeeded at being remember in history because records about her life have been preserved in her tomb.
Another interesting thing about her tomb...Fu Hao’s tomb has yielded over a hundred weapons. This is very unusual for a woman’s tomb, and shows her status as a military leader.
